Lapland rescue department does its part in taking care of safety of Lapland, its inhabitants and visitors. The duty of the rescue department is to prevent accidents, guide in proper action in accident situations and provide fast and efficient help for those who need it in all circumstances.
Kittilä belongs in Northern Lapland Police Department together with 10 other western Lapland municipalities. In Kittilä police station you can find licence services, you can report a crime and there is also weapons inspection.
One should always call the emergency number 112 in urgent, real emergencies when life, health, property or environment is under threat or in danger, or there is a reason to suspect that this is the case. Transportation of patients is provided by HES Sairaankuljetus Oy. Fire damages that are caused by fireplaces and flues can be effectively prevented with regular sweeping. Sweeping has an impact on economical use of energy, environmental protection and people's health.

Lapland police department has compiled an extensive safety brochure which is meant for everyone living and visiting Lapland. Lapland rescue department and other quarters that work with security have participated in making the brochure.
The brochure can be used freely and it can be printed for use in a holiday cottage or in a guide board of a tourist company.
