Snowmobile trails in Kittilä

In the area of ​​Kittilä municipality, there are excellent opportunities to enjoy the landscapes of Lapland by snowmobile.

There are about 900 kilometers of official snowmobile routes in Kittilä. In addition to that there is one snowmobile tracks, Pulju-Kappera, 18 km. A kilometer-long  track for snowmobiles runs through Levi centre. 

The technical service of the municipality of Kittilä is responsible for the construction and maintenance of the routes. Oy Levi Ski Resort Ltd. is responsible for laying out the trails.

Information about route maintenance

  • Ice routes are marked when the ice thickness is about 20 cm.
  • The route is officially put into use when the first laning has been completed.
  • The route network is tried to be laid as comprehensively as possible, depending on the winter conditions.

  • The driver and passenger must wear a protective helmet
  • Please note that the snowmobile routes in Kittilä municipality have been officialized by land surveying and follow the regulations of the Road Traffic Act on snowmobiling. The police supervises sled traffic on official routes.
  • The marked routes to the ice areas are indicative, everyone must observe the load capacity of the ice when moving in the ice areas, movement is at your own risk.
  • There may be changes on the routes, which will be announced on the municipality's website and also on the terrain, so follow the signs on the routes.

Maximun speed

  • The maximum permitted driving speed on routes is 60 km/h, in ice-covered water areas 80 km/h, unless otherwise specified by restrictions.
  • The maximum permitted speed for a sled with a trailer and passengers is 40 km/h.

In the event of an accident

  • The route network has a yellow rescue code sign every kilometer.
  • Call the emergency number 112 and list the information on the nearest rescue sign.
  • Based on the information from the rescue sign, the rescue personnel will find the scene.
