Biodegradable waste is handled mainly by property owners, in accordance with waste management regulations set by Lapeco.
Biodegradable waste and outhouse waste produced on your property can be composted only on your property. Food waste composting is allowed only with rodent-proof composting bins, in which there is both a lid and solid base/netted base. Composting manure or sludge is prohibited in urban areas.
The composting bin cannot cause harm to neighbors or to the environment. It must be placed at least 5 meters in from the plot boundary, anything closer requires the neighbor’s permission. The composting bin cannot be placed closer than 15 meters to the nearest household well or body of water.
You must notify Lapeco if you plan to compost. More information can be found through customer service.
