Recycling and waste management

Note! For questions regarding plastic and cardboard recycling, contact Rinki. (https://rinkiin.fi/en/)

Lapland Waste Management Joint Municipal Group, Lapeco is responsible for municipal waste management in the Kittilä area. Municipal waste includes household waste and waste accumulated in the service sector that is comparable to household waste. Dormitories, summer cottages, holiday rentals and timeshares, and other companies that provide accommodation services (not including hotel-like services) also generate municipal waste.

Property owners must make a waste management agreement with Lapeco. You’ll find information about their services and prices on the Lapeco website.

The contractual waste collection system under the old Waste Act (1072/1993), in which the property owner/producer of waste agreed on the removal of waste with their company of choice, is NOT used for municipal waste.

Property-specific recycling applies to properties located in urban areas with at least 5 residences. Residents of other properties must recycle their waste at recycling collection points.

Companies, including companies offering hotel-like services, can make a waste management agreement with a waste management company of their choice.
