The role of the communications department is to make it easier for residents and others interested in municipal matters to access information. They also share information about municipal services, decisions, and events.
The communications department supports the municipality’s activities by promoting the wellbeing of residents and the vitality of the area. In accordance with municipal laws, the department communicates about the municipality’s activities to residents, users of services, organizations, and other communities.
The communications department is an important part of municipal governance. It helps to ensure that the municipality uses clear and understandable language, taking into account the needs of different resident groups, and makes sure that communication is professional, coordinated, and accessible. The Municipal Strategy is put into practice through proper communication, making the municipality’s vision, values, and priorities more visible.
How the municipality communicates
Relevant and up-to-date information is compiled onto the municipality’s website. The website offers information about municipal services and services offered by other actors in the area, as well as events and news. The website is updated on a regular basis.
The decisions and announcements made by Kittilä Municipality can also be found on the website, as well as bulletins with current information and events. Agendas and minutes of decision-making bodies are also published online. The municipality publishes a Municipal Bulletin distributed to every household approximately once a month. News and press releases can be found on the municipality’s website under kittila.fi/ajankohtaista (current affairs/FIN). This information is also distributed on the municipality’s social media channels. The mayor and administrative director are responsible for all of the municipality’s communications matters. Each department within the municipality is responsible for communicating information regarding their own departments. Communication matters are carried out in cooperation with the municipality’s communications team. The work is guided by the Communications Guidelines for the Municipality of Kittilä.

Kittilä Municipality Communications Guidelines
In May 2020, the Kittilä Municipal Board approved the Kittilä Municipality Communications Guidelines (Khall 5.5.2020 § 162). The guidelines complement and support the Municipal Strategy, vision, and values of the Municipality of Kittilä.
The Kittilä Municipality Communications Department supports all municipal departments by ensuring that it provides sufficient information about municipal matters, services, finances, and ongoing plans, as well as how municipal decisions affect residents. In addition, it highlights ways residents can participate and influence the municipality’s operations and activities.
