There are about 900km of official snowmobile routes in Kittilä, as well as one 18km-long track from Pulju to Kappera. There is also a kilometer-long track that runs through the central area in Levi. The Municipality of Kittilä is responsible for the construction and maintenance of these routes, while Oy Levi Ski Resort Ltd. is responsible for grooming the trails.

Note that maps are only available as online versions and cannot be printed. You can purchase a physical copy of the map (900km of trails) from the Levi Tourist Information office (+358 16 639 3378) or local stores in the area. Maps are also available at Kittilä Municipality’s Information Services (+358 400 356 500).

Information about route maintenance
- Routes on ice are marked once the ice is about 20cm thick.
- The route is officially open once the first grooming has been completed.
- Routes are groomed as well as possible, depending on winter weather conditions.
- Staying on marked routes is a must. Always follow traffic rules and signs.
Guidelines for using routes

- Always follow snowmobile rules and traffic signs.
- Snowmobiles must be registered and insured.
- Driving on snowmobile routes requires a category T-license (and you must be at least 15 years old).
- Drivers and passengers must wear safety helmets.
- Note that snowmobile tracks are official tracks registered with the National Land Survey of Finland, meaning that all traffic laws regarding snowmobiling must be obeyed. The police monitor snowmobile traffic on official routes.
- Snowmobiling on ice routes should be done at your own risk, even on marked routes – always monitor the ice load capacity when moving on the ice.
- Changes may occur along the routes – stay up-to-date about changes on the municipality’s website, and keep an eye on traffic signs when driving.
Speed limits
- The speed limit on the routes is 60km/h, and on ice-covered bodies of water it is 80km/h, unless otherwise specified.
- Snowmobiles pulling sleds with passengers can drive at max 40km/h.
Accidents and emergencies
- The route network has a yellow rescue code sign every at kilometer.
- Call the emergency number 112 and list the information on the nearest rescue sign.
- Based on the information given from the rescue sign, the rescue personnel will be able to find the specific location.
