Palsa-museo

The Palsa Museum is located in the home and atelier of the artist Kalervo Palsa (1947-1987). During his lifetime, Palsa became known for his provocative, sexual, and often grim paintings.

Kalervo Palsa’s home was unoccupied for many years after his death and was therefore in poor condition. The Kauko Sorjonen Foundation purchased the property in 2011, and in 2012 the buildings were restored and the paintings on the walls of the atelier were conserved. The Palsa Museum, located in an area in the Village of Kittilä called Narikka, was opened to the public on 6.6.2013.

The Palsa Museum is a part of the Lapland Artist Museums (Lapin Taiteilijamuseot), which also includes Särestöniemi Museum in Kaukonen and Museo – Galleria Andreas Alariesto in Sodankylä. Särestöniemi Museum is responsible for the activities of the Palsa Museum, and all of the museums mentioned above are part of the Kauko Sorjonen Foundation.
