Levi Snow Sport Academy

Snow Sport Academy (formerly Levi Alpine School) includes four different orientation options: alpine skiing, ”multi-skill”, freeride and, most recently, freeski.

There are a total of 55-60 students each year, most of whom study at Kittilä high school, but there are also students at REDU's Kittilä unit. The number of students represents more than a third of the entire High School's students.

Levi Snow Sport Academy was founded in 1999, when seven students started at Kittilä High School in two different programs; alpine skiing program and the multi-skill program. Through the activities of the Snow Sport Academy, well over 140 High School students have graduated from the high school.

Alpine skiing program

An athlete on the alpine skiing team trains professionally alongside their studies with the aim of making a career out of sports, being able to ski in their own village Levi World Cup and thus be part of the national team.

Multi-skill program

A student completes alpine ski instructor and snowboard instructor training alongside their studies, after which they are qualified to work as a ski instructor. About a quarter of the teachers at Levi Ski Resort´s ski school are current or former students of Snow Sport Academy.

Freeride program

A student also completes alpine ski instructor training alongside their studies. However, the Snow Sport Academy's current training content focuses on freeskiing and, above all, on practicing it safely, including national snow safety training course´s 1 and 2.

Freeskiing program

Students focus on park skiing. They train purposefully to succeed in competitions, or alternatively, students can focus on producing content and especially videography in varying slope conditions.
