The Einari Junttila Art Museum is open on Thursdays from 13-17, and by appointment at other times. The exhibition on display celebrates the 120th birthday of the artist.
Einari Junttila was one of the more talented watercolor artists in the 1930s, when his career took off with exhibitions in Germany and Helsinki. He was internationally recognized and invited to display his work in places around Finland and abroad.
Junttila enjoyed capturing the old, original Lapland in his art, though his work also depicted more modern life in the north. His work showcases the beauty of untouched nature and the spirit if Lapland. As a lyrical realist, Junttila found inspiration from the nature in Kittilä. The fells, forests, swamps, creeks, and meadows near rivers all found their way into his work. Einari Junttila supported his family of nine with his artwork.
