Polar Lights Tours Oy operates a shelter for stray animals in the Municipality of Kittilä. The animal shelter only takes in domestic animals. Other wild animals do not belong in the shelter. In these cases, contact the police (112, general emergency number), or in situations where your pet or others may be in danger. If you suspect animal abuse, report an animal welfare incident to the official veterinarian during working hours. Contact the police outside working hours.
Stray Animals
Contact 040 413 9248, if you’ve found a stray animal (Mon-Sun 8-18). Animals should be in your possession when calling the stray animal service. You can also report sightings of loose animals. Only call at night in urgent situations.
If there is no answer, please send a text message to 040 413 9248 or an email to info@polarlightstours.fi. You will be contacted as soon as possible.
The following must be included in your message:
- Name
- Phone number
- Your location
- The animal you’ve found
Please note that you will only be contacted if you’ve sent a message with the information above.
The stray animal will wait for their owner for 15 days, after which they will be found a new home or be put to sleep.
Lost pets
You can report a lost pet to the number 040 413 9248 (8-18). Outside of this time window, and to give more specific information, send an email to info@polarlightstours.fi or a text message to 040 413 9248.
Include the following information:
- The type of pet (breed/description of appearance, color, sex, size, and if there is a tag/collar)
- Last seen location/address
- Date/time last seen
- Picture/s
- Contact information of the owner (name, phone, email)
The missing pet report is valid for 2 months after which you can renew the report. Please notify us if you’ve found your pet.
Posting of reports
Reports of found/missing pets are posted on the Kittilän löytöeläinkoti Facebook page (animal shelter), as well as the Polar Lights Tours website (links below).
