Municipal Council, Municipal Board, and committees

The Municipal Council, which includes 27 councilors, has the highest decision-making authority in the Municipality of Kittilä. The councilors and their deputies are elected in municipal elections held every four years.

The council’s meetings are public and can be followed either in person or online at Verkkolähetykset ja tallenteet | kittila.fi (webcasts and recordings, FIN). Meetings held by other municipal bodies are closed, unless decided otherwise. 

The Municipal Council elects a nine-member municipal board which governs the municipality’s finances and administrative matters and implements the decisions of the council. Other bodies of influence within the municipality include the Youth Council and Council for the Elderly and Disabled whose operating conditions and makeup are decided by the Municipal Board. 

In addition to official bodies, there may also be informal auxiliary and preparatory bodies without formal status. These include, for example, management teams and various working groups.
