Dog parks

The dog parks in the Municipality of Kittilä are meant for all dogs. Dog owners are responsible for the behavior of their dogs in the parks. Dogs must always be healthy, vaccinated, and supervised when visiting the dog parks. 


The technical department of Kittilä Municipality is responsible for the maintenance of the dog parks listed below.

Dog tracks

Certain sections of cross-country skiing tracks can be used with dogs as long as they are on a leash. Dog tracks are clearly marked with a dog symbol and red dashed line on the track maps of Kittilä Village and the Levi area.

Animals

Tunturi-Lapin Ympäristöterveydenhuolto (Fell-Lapland Environmental Healthcare) is responsible for veterinary and animal protection services in Kittilä. Read more: Animals | tunturilapinyth.fi (in Finnish)

On this website, you’ll also find other information regarding animals. Kittilä Municipality maintains a pet cemetery and contracts stray animal services from local actors. 

Commuter and other transport services in Kittilä

There is a commuter service line that is open to all and works on an on-call basis. When you want a ride for Meän Pirssi, call the route operator at least one day in advance. You’ll receive information about the exact time and pickup location. The trip costs the same as bus transport.

Air traffic

Kittilä has an international airport with great connections to both domestic and European destinations. The airport is located about 5km north of Kittilä Village.

Transport

Getting to Kittilä is fairly easy due to its accessible location. Route 79 from Rovaniemi (from the south) and Muonio (from the north) intersect, as does Route 80, which runs from Sodankylä via Kittilä to Kolari towards Ylläs.

Services promoting health and wellbeing

Services include promoting wellbeing, health, and safety in cooperation with the Wellbeing Services County of Lapland as well as various actors in the municipality. Tasks include, for example, coordinating well-being reports, increasing inclusivity, preventative measures for substance abuse, and relaying information about wellbeing, health, and safety to residents.
