The technical department’s role is to provide safe, comfortable, and cost-effective municipal services and facilities for the municipality. They also promote the comfortability and preservation of diversity of the natural and built environment, as well as good construction practices.
The technical department is responsible for the following tasks:
- Land use planning, including master planning and local detailed planning
- Management and care of municipal land and water areas, streets, parks, and other public areas; development of water supply and services
- Design and construction of business premises
- Municipal administrative and supervisory duties under the Private Road Act
- Supervision of construction and other measures affecting the environment
- Supervision and promotion of environmental protection
